About Food at Nokomis Square…
Nokomis Square is one of a few cooperatives that offer in-house dining. NSC was built with a commercial kitchen, and for more than 20 years we have had a contract with New Horizons Food Service to operate this kitchen. We offer five meals a week to residents and their guests. Most Monday through Thursday dinners are served at 5:00 p.m. at a cost of $9.00. Sunday dinner is served at 1:00 p.m. at a cost of $10.00. Some evening meals, such as walleye, shrimp or salmon cost $10.00.
Once a month we celebrate birthdays of the month by offering a special get-together lunch for $6.50. This lunch is for all residents and guests—not just for those celebrating birthdays that month.
Holiday meals are usually $12.00, because employees are paid double-time. Our wait staff consists of six to eight 14- to 17-year-olds. State law requires that they be off duty by 7:00 p.m.
Our chef prepared meals are tasty, and many have said, “Where else can you get a three-course meal and beverage for nine or ten dollars without tip and pay no tax?”
Meal tickets are good gifts for family or friends to give to “hard-to-buy-for” residents or as a “thank you” gift.
Nearly every Friday May through September we grill together on the patio. We have occasional potluck dinners during the colder weather. A new opportunity for getting together began in 2018 …Happy Hour at 5:00 p.m. bi-weekly on Friday nights.
Meals-on-Wheels food is prepared in our kitchen and is available for our residents . Hot lunch meals for $5.00 may be ordered by calling two days in advance.
